Nursing students boycott class, exams in two districts
Nursing college students boycotted classes, examinations and clinical practice in two districts yesterday, to press home a four-point demand, including transformation of their four-year BSc-in-nursing programme to a distinct one.
The other demands are introduction of BCS cadre service for nursing graduates, increase in monthly internship allowances to Tk 20,000 from Tk 6,000 and stipend Tk 5,000 from Tk 2000, and creation of clinical practice nurse post at all nursing colleges.
Our Sylhet correspondent reports, students of Sylhet Nursing College staged a sit-in on the campus.
The programme, organised by the college’s Students Welfare Organisation, continued till 1pm from 10am.
Anik Deb, its president, said they will keep demonstrating until the demands are met.
Our Barisal correspondent adds, students of Barisal Nursing College staged a rally on its campus.
Under the banner of Bangladesh Basic Graduate Student Nurses Association, around 300 students of the college boycotted their classes and demonstrated for two hours starting at 11am.
