Nooruzzaman’s death anniv today
Yesterday was the 8th death anniversary of decorated war hero Lt Col (retd) Quazi Nooruzzaman, Bir Uttam, Commander of Sector 7 during the Liberation War. He passed away at the age of 86 in 2011.
Nooruzzaman joined the war having retired from the Pakistan Army a few years earlier, prompted by the March 25 genocide, said a press release.
As the Chairman of Muktijudhha Sangsad in the early 1980s he had demanded the banning of Jamaat-e-Islami and the trial of war criminals.
Later, he was among the primary founders and organisers of Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee.
Nooruzzaman was born to Quazi Sadrul Ola and Ratubannessa in Jashore on March 24, 1925.
He was also a noted progressive writer and thinker. He was the editor of the weekly Noya Pododdhoni and lead editor of the book Ekattorer Ghatok o Dalalra Ke Kothay. His books include Muktijudhho o Rajniti and A Sector Commander Remembers Bangladesh Liberation War.
