Public representatives of Noakhali and Red Crescent have provided free accommodation and meals for two days for over one lakh people who visited the town for admission test of Noakhali Science and Technology University.
“It’s a good instance of social responsibility,” said Ali Ahmad, guardian of an examinee. They boarded in a local madrasa.
About 68,000 admission seekers accompanied by their family members began to gather in Noakhali town since Thursday afternoon.
To ease the accommodation crisis, Noakhali Sadar Upazila Chairman AKM Samsuddin Jehan, Noakhali Municipality Mayor Shohid Ullah Khan Sohel, and Red Crescent have opened up schools, colleges, madrasas, mosques, residential hotels and government offices for people.
Local lawmaker Ekramul Karim Chowdhury facilitated 100 buses and 60,000 bottles of mineral water for the visitors. Besides, 200 motorcyclists helped admission seekers reach exam halls.
Contacted, Noakhali Municipality Mayor Shohid said they have taken the initiative on humanitarian grounds, as accommodation and food crisis deepens during admission test period.
