‘No unity in Oikyafront’
Information Minister Hasan Mahmud yesterday said BNP’s acting chairperson Tarique Rahman will have to face his punishment one day.
“It is the duty of the government and the state to ensure the execution of a convict’s punishment, and PM Sheikh Hasina pointed that out yesterday,” the minister told reporters at his Secretariat office.
The prime minister on Sunday reaffirmed that the punishment given by courts to Tarique Rahman in different cases will surely be executed.
Later that day, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir termed the PM’s remark about Tarique “devoid of political etiquette”.
Hasan said the former prime minister showed utter disregard to social etiquette when Hasina went to Khaleda’s house after the death of her son Arafat Rahman.
Asked about a meeting of Oikyafront aiming to forge unity, Hasan Mahmud said, “Condition of Oikyafront makes me laugh and feel pity at the same time. They have long been talking about forging national unity, broader unity…But there is no unity in Oikyafront.”
