No one present to testify in Dipan murder case
None of the summoned witnesses were present to testify in the Dipan murder case as the prosecution failed to produce them before the tribunal yesterday.
Advocate Golam Sharuar Khan, assistant public prosecutor of the Anti-terrorism Special Tribunal of Dhaka, said, “Three witnesses were earlier summoned but none of them appeared before the tribunal yesterday.”
Razia Rahman, the victim’s wife who was summoned to appear yesterday, claimed that she was not notified.
“On October 13, the tribunal sent a summon letter to Pallabi Police Sation for producing Razia Rahman before court, and sent two letters to Shahbagh Police Station for producing Mursalin Ahmed and Anowar Hossain,” said Ruhul Amin, a bench assistant of the tribunal.
“Police’s duty is to inform the court if they are not able to communicate with witnesses after the summon letters are issued,” he said. “But the tribunal did not get any response in this regard.”
OC Nazrul Islam of Pallabi Police Station said, “I will look into the matter and inform the authorities concerned.”
Judge Md Majibur Rahman set December 1 for the next testimony.
