No alternative to skills development
President Abdul Hamid yesterday stressed the need to mould the young generation as skilled members of the workforce who have ample knowledge of science and information technology (IT).
“The 21th century has thrown various challenges at us... We’re facing intense competition and there’s no alternative to skill development to keep up,” the president said.
“We have to take initiatives to make our younger generation skilled and knowledgeable in science and IT.”
He was addressing the fifth convocation of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) at the capital’s Mirpur Cantonment.
A total of 1,778 students received degrees at the convocation. Twelve were awarded Chancellor’s Gold Medal for outstanding performances while 22 received Vice Chancellor Award. Seven received certificates for completing PhD.
National Professor Anisuzzaman, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni and BUP Vice Chancellor Maj Gen Md Emdad-Ul-Bari also spoke at the convocation.
BUP opened its doors on January 5, 2008 as the 30th public university in Bangladesh.
