New vessel carrying LNG arrives
Carrying around 2,860 million cubic feet of LNG (liquefied natural gas), a vessel from Qatar arrived at Moheshkhali island in the Bay of Bengal on Saturday.
The vessel, Al Jassasiya, will transfer the gas to another vessel, Excellence, which is a floating storage and re-gasification unit (FSRU), by noon today and depart, said officials of Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Ltd (RPGCL).
According to them, from April 24 to yesterday, around 22,880 million cubic feet LNG gas has been imported to the country from Qatar through eight vessels.
Consignment of 15 thousand million cubic feet LNG will be imported from abroad per month from January 2019, to ease gas crisis, said Rafiqul Islam, general manager (LNG-cell) of RPGCL.
Md Quamruzzaman, managing director of RPGCL, said earlier around 300 million cubic feet of gas were supplied from the FSRU per day, which will be increased to 500 million cubic feet per day.
