Nationwide sit-in on May 15
Journalists will hold sit-ins across the country on May 15 to put pressure on the government for implementing their 14-point demand, including gazette notification for the ninth wage board before Eid-ul-Fitr.
Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), together with other journalists’ forums, will arrange the sit-ins, said BFUJ President Mollah Jalal at a rally in front of Jatiya Press Club yesterday. The programme was organised by BFUJ where different journalists’ organisations took part.
The demands include issuing gazette notification for the ninth wage board, putting an end to unethically laying off media workers, disbursement of regular salary, and immediate enactment of media workers’ law.
Speakers demanded that media workers who have been sacked recently be paid all their dues as per rules of the current wage board.
Continuous demonstration will be held if the demands are not met, Mollah Jalal said.
