M’singh road crash kills 4
At least four activists of BNP and its front organisations were killed and three others were injured in a road accident in Raghunathpur area on Mymensigh-Haluaghat road in Haluaghat upazila yesterday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Ariful Islam (18), Sajib Mia (22), Mizanur Rahman (18), and Shariful Islam (20).
Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge of Haluaghat Police Station Biplob Kumar Biswas said the accident took place around 4pm after a Dhaka-bound bus collided head-on with a battery-run auto-rickshaw, killing Ariful and Sajib Mia on the spot and injuring seven others. All of the victims were passengers and the driver of the auto-rickshaw.
They were rushed to Haluaghat Upazila Health Complex, from where they were referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) after their condition deteriorated, the OC said.
Later, doctors at MMCH declared Mizanur and Shariful dead. Police have recovered and sent the deceased's bodies to MMCH morgue for autopsy.
Police managed to seized the vehicles but the bus driver fled the scene. A case has been lodged with Haluaghat Police Station in this regard.
Acting coordination of BNP Haluaghat upazila unit Md Ali Asgar said all four of the deceased were activists of BNP and its front organisations of Beeldora union. They were on their way to the BNP office at Haluaghat Uttar Bazar for an Ekushey February programme.
