Mother, daughter die as bus flips over in Savar
A woman and her four-year-old daughter were killed as the bus they were in flipped over in Savar yesterday.
At least 25 passengers of the bus were injured in the accident that occurred around 1:00pm on Dhaka-Aricha highway in BPATC area, reports our Savar correspondent.
The identities of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately, said police.
The bus of “Welcome Paribahan” hit a road divider after its driver lost control over the steering, said Abul Hossen, traffic inspector of Savar police.
The woman and her daughter died on the spot.
With around 40 passengers on board, the bus was headed towards Motijheel from Jirani in Ashulia, said police.
They seized the vehicle but its driver managed to flee, said Abdul Awal, officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station.
The injured were given treatment at Savar Upazila Health Complex, said doctors.
Our Tangail correspondent adds, two people were killed and five others injured when a bus and a human haulier collided head-on at Porabari in Ghatail upazila the same day.
The victims were in the human haulier.
Rezaul Karim Shamol, 32, from Tangail's Ghatail; and Kabir Hossain, 30, from Mymensingh; died instantly, said police and witnesses.
The injured -- Rina Begum, 40, Rohima Begum, 42, Chaina Begum, 38, Afzal Hossain, 21, and Shamsul Haque, 52 -- were sent to Tangail General Hospital.
