Monsoon rain continues in port city

Three flights fail to land at Ctg airport due to bad weather

Mild to moderate rainfall has been continuing in port city compelling Chattogram District Administration to continue its eviction campaign among people living in risky hill slopes for the fifth day.

Chattogram Met Office recorded 139.8mm rainfall in 24 hours till 3pm yesterday, said Pradip Kanti Roy, the forecasting officer.

Sources at the district administration said around 800 families have been evicted from eight hills of the city so far in the last five days, and they took refuge in eight shelter centres opened by the administration.

Meanwhile, two international and one domestic flight failed to land at Chattogram airport yesterday afternoon due to unfavourable weather.

Two flights from Kolkata -- one of Regent Airways and another of US-Bangla Airlines -- landed at Dhaka airport, said Wing Commander ABM Sarwar E Jaman, airport manager at Dhaka airport.

The domestic flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines from Dhaka landed at Cox’s Bazar airport, he said.
