Mohiuddin Murder: Four arrestees sent to jail
A Chattogram court yesterday sent four persons to jail in connection with former BCL leader Mohiuddin Sohel murder case.
A metropolitan magistrate passed the order after police produced them before the court, said AC (Prosecution) Kazi Shahabuddin of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP).
So far, 18 persons, including a local Jatiya Party leader, have been arrested in connection with the case, said CMP's Assistant Commissioner of Double Mooring zone Ashikur Rahman.
Police arrested Md Ramjan Ali Kiron, 30; Md Iqbal, 21; Md Lalon, 50; and his son Md Shakil Khan Shamim, 19; from Pahartali Bazar area in the port city early yesterday, AC Ashikur added.
On January 7, Mohiuddin, the former general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League's (BCL) Chattogram Commerce College unit, was lynched by an angry mob at Pahartali Railway Bazar area, over allegations of extortion.
The next day, his brother Sakirul Islam Shihir filed a murder case with Double Mooring Police Station, accusing 177 persons.
On January 8, the victim's family members held a press conference and claimed that the murder was pre-planned.
They also claimed that Mohiuddin was targeted as he raised his voice against irregularities and other crimes in the market area.
