Missing woman found dead in pond
A woman was found dead in a pond in Gazipur yesterday two days after she had gone missing.
Locals noticed a part of Sabina Aktar’s body emerged from water in a corner of the waterbody in Sreepur, said police.
Her hands and legs were tied to a pillar of the pond, said Sreepur Police Station Sub-Inspector Mohammad Jahangir Alam.
Salima Begum, an aunt of Sabina, 22, said the victim got married to one Nahid from the city’s Telipara area three years ago. They have a one and half years old son.
Sabina, a textile mill worker, and her son used to live in a rented house in Surya Narayanpur of Sreepur. The couple did not live together due to family feud.
Salima, who lives adjacent to the house, claimed to have witnessed that a man took her on motorcycle on Tuesday night. Since then, she had been missing, said Salima.
SI Jahangir Alam said the body was dumped in the pond at neighbouring Razabari village.
Akhtar Hussain, officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station, said the decomposing body was sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Filing of a case was underway last night, the OC.
