Man remanded in rape case

A Chattogram court yesterday placed a man -- who was arrested on August 18 -- on remand, in a case filed over rape of a 16-year-old girl in the city’s Bayzid Bostami area. 

The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Safi Uddin placed the accused Nejam Uddin alias Nejam Mama, 42, on one-day remand after police produced him before it, said Senior Assistant Commissioner (AC) Kazi Shahabuddin Ahmed.

Earlier, police arrested Nejam from his Muktijoddha Colony ‘khanka’ (house of a religious leader) where he reportedly used to provide spiritual guidance to people, over raping a girl in his room. 

The girl was sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for medical tests.
