Man, missing for eight days, found murdered
A man was found dead in Rangpur yesterday, eight days after he had gone missing.
On information from three arrestees, including a constable, police recovered the body of Tosharaf Hossain from a sugarcane field in Badarganj upazila’s Shyampur, said Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdur Rashid.
Family sources said Tosharaf from Dhaka’s Hazaribagh was an administrative officer of an urban health care centre in the city.
On January 11, he went to Rangpur to find their missing domestic help, said victim’s sister Shajia Arfin Doli. After getting off a bus at the city’s Kamarpara, Tosharaf phoned constable Rabiul Islam for help as he was acquainted with the policeman.
Since then, Tosharaf’s phone has been found switched off and he remained traceless, she said.
Following the incident, Doli filed a case with Kotwali Police Station on Thursday.
On Friday, police arrested constable Rabiul from a police training centre in Rangpur. On his information, they arrested Rabiul’sbrother-in-law Saiful Islam and another man named Bipul Mia at different places, said OC Abdur Rashid.
Following interrogation, they came to know that the three were involved in the killing, said Shahidullah Kawsar, additional deputy commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police.
ADC Kawsar, also investigation officer of the case, said there had been a dispute between Tosharaf and constable Rabiulas the formerwas not repaying some money heowed to him.
Rabiul picked him up from Kamarpara and strangled him in Shyampur, said the police officer. Before killing him, he drugged Tosharaf, he added.
The body was sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue. Further derails about the murder can be ascertained after autopsy and the arrestees’ remand.
