Man hacked to death in Cumilla
An employee of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) was hacked to death by a group of masked men at his house in Cumilla’s Barura upazila around 2am yesterday.
The deceased is Sharif Uddin (45) of Sadar upazila in Sirajganj. Sharif, a father of three, was in-charge of BREB’s complaint centre in the upazila’s Adda area.
Sharif’s wife said the gang entered their home forcibly and attacked Sharif with sharp weapons.
Neighbours rushed there after hearing screams and took Sharif to Cumilla Medical College Hospital, where he was declared dead.
Iqbal Bahar, inspector (operations) of Barura Police Station, said they are investigating the incident.
Jalaluddin, deputy general manager of BREB in Barura, said, “Sharif’s body was sent to Comilla Medical College morgue for autopsy, and it will later be taken to his village home. We don’t know of any disputes Sharif was involved in.”
