Man arrested for killing teenage girl in Dhaka
Detective branch (DB) of police claimed to have arrested a man for allegedly killing a teenager after rape, from Islambagh area of the capital on the day of Eid-ul-Azha.
The arrestee has been identified as Md Riaz, 24, hailing from Deegholdee village of Bangla Bazar area in Bhola Sadar upazila.
A team of DB (south) conducted a drive in Bhola and arrested Riaz on Friday, said Khandaker Rabiul Arafat Lelin, additional commissioner of DB (south) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
Riaz was a caretaker of a house in Islambagh, and used to live on the fourth floor of the five-storeyd building, the police official told this newspaper.
On Eid day, Riaz convinced the 18 years old girl -- a worker of a nearby shoe factory -- to come with him to the attic of the building where he raped her around 9pm, said Lelin.
After the incident, during altercation, Riaz tried to strangle her and the girl fell on the floor, hitting her head -- leading to her death. Riaz dumped the body on the rooftop of a nearby house, after tying a scarf around her neck, said Lelin.
The victim’s mother Halima lodged a case with Chawkbazar Police Station.
Following the arrest, Riaz was produced before a Dhaka court where he gave his confessional statement over the murder yesterday, the DB official added.
