Man allegedly slits 2-year-old son’s throat over drug money
A man slit the throat of his two-year-old in Gazipur’s Sreepur upazila today allegedly as his wife refused to give him money to buy drugs.
The accused Raju Miah, 30, hailing from Dewanganj upazila of Jamalpur, lives in a rented house in Bartopa village under the upazila.
His wife Kamrunnahar works at a garments factory in the area.
Locals and police said Raju often took money from his wife to buy drugs. According to Kamrunnahar, at around 4pm yesterday, Raju again asked her for money, but was refused.
This triggered an altercation between the two. At one stage, Raju held a knife to their son’s throat and slit it. He then threatened to kill the child, Kamrunnahar said.
As the child began to cry out from the pain, locals rushed to the spot and rescued him.
Initially, the boy was taken to a local hospital and was later shifted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
Police detained the accused, said Md Belal, sub-inspector of Sreepur Police Station.
No file has been filed over the matter yet.
