Madrasa teacher held over murder of wife, nephew
Police yesterday detained Ibrahim Khalil Talukder, a teacher and superintendent of Huffazul Quran Madrasa, hours after throat-slit bodies of his wife and her nephew were found inside the premises of the madrasa in Gazipur city.
“We suspect that he might be involved in the double murder,” said Moktar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Bason Police Station.
The deceased were identified as Mahmuda Akter, 25, and Mamun, 7, her nephew and a student of the madrasa, police said.
Ibrahim found the bodies after he returned from Fazr prayers at a nearby mosque along with students. He notified law enforcers of the incident, the OC added.
Police recovered and sent the bodies to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC also said, adding that there were injury marks by sharp weapons on the bodies.
Filing of a case was underway, the OC said.
Ibrahim has been serving as the superintendent of the madrasa for the last two years, and used to live in a room at the madrasa with his wife and her nephew. There are over 50 students at the madrasa, many of whom were taken home by their parents following the incident.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner YM Belalur Rahman said an investigation is in progress, and hoped that the murder mystery will be solved soon.
