Last session of 10th JS begins today
The last session of the current 10th parliament begins this afternoon. The session will start at 4:30pm with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
Prior to the session, the business advisory committee of parliament will hold a meeting to fix the duration and businesses of the session.
Earlier on October 5, President Abdul Hamid convened the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) session, exercising his power bestowed upon him in the constitution.
This session is likely to be the last session of the current parliament, as there is no obligation to summon any session of parliament during the national election.
The Election Commission has already said it will declare the schedule for the 11th national election any day after October.
It will likely be a very brief session -- with three to four sittings, sources at the parliament secretariat said.
The present parliament is unlikely to go for any session after October 23, unless the president convenes.
Some important bills, including Government Service Bill and Bangladesh Labour (amendment) Bill are likely to pass in the session.
The 10th parliament went into its maiden session on January 29, 2014.
