Language hero Abdul Hannan no more
Syed Abul Hannan, a Language Movement veteran and a freedom fighter, died from old-age complications at a private hospital in the capital yesterday. He was 87.
Hannan, also former principal of Sherpur Government College, left behind his wife, two sons, three daughters and hosts of relatives to mourn his death.
He will be buried at his family graveyard in Modyosheri area of the district today after a janaza at Sherpur Pouro Eidgah Maidan.
Born on December 25, 1932, Hannan got involved in the 1952 Language Movement when he was a student of Dhaka University.
He was also an organiser of the Liberation War, and was arrested thrice for helping intellectuals and freedom fighters in Sherpur.
