Konapara girls’ murder: Cops press charges against 2
Police today submitted charge sheet against two persons on charge of killing two five-year-old girls at Konapara in the capital’s Demra on January 7.
Police arrested the two charge sheeted accused Golam Mostafa, 28, and his cousin Azizul Bawani, 30, the capital’s Jatrabari and Demra a day after the murders of the girls Faria Akter Dola and her friend in the same locality Nusrat Jahan.
The arrestees later made statements before a Dhaka court confessing their crimes. They are now in jail custody.
“We have submitted the charge sheet before a Dhaka court this morning after completing investigation in just 15 days,” Deputy Commissioner (Wari division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Mohammad Farid Uddin told The Daily Star.
Replying to a query, Farid Uddin said Mostafa raped one of the girls Dola while both of them attempted to rape the other girls.
Earlier, police quoting the suspected murderers said that the duo had lured the children to a flat offering them lipsticks.
The accused confined the kids to a room. They took yaba and played songs on a speaker.
At one stage, the men tried to rape the victims who started screaming when the culprits strangled them to death.
The killings of the children sparked protests in Demra and Konapara areas.
