Murdered for making lewd remarks about friend’s wife
Md Shakhawat Hossain Fahim, whose decomposed body was recovered from a water tank on Friday in port city’s Chawkbazar area, was murdered by a close friend for making lewd comments about the friend’s wife, said police.
After eight days of the murder, police arrested Fahim’s friend Arif, 22, from Bhola district yesterday.
Deputy Commissioner (South) Mehedi Hasan of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) said Arif admitted to them during primary investigation that he and Fahim used to take yaba together at Arif’s house.
Fahim would often make offensive remarks about Arif’s wife, the arrestee reportedly told police.
Addressing a press conference at his office, the police official said Arif plotted to kill Fahim, and as part of his plan, called Fahim to his house to take drugs on August 20.
When Fahim came over, Arif took him to an abandoned water tank on the roof, and at one point stabbed Fahim’s throat with a knife he had kept there before. He then dumped the dead body, wrapping it up in a blanket he had also pre-arranged, the DC said.
Soon after the murder, Arif went to Bhola and stayed there to avoid arrest, said the DC.
As Fahim was missing since August 20, his father filed a missing persons diary with Chawkbazar Police Station.
Police recovered the decomposed body of Fahim on August 23 from Chawakbazar’s Abu Colony.
