Khaleda's Treatment: HC to hear writ petition today
The High Court will today hear BNP Chairperson Khaleda's writ petition seeking its directive on receiving treatment at United Hospital, her lawyers said yesterday.
The bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Ahmed Sohel set the date saying that the matter is connected with the BNP chief's health.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam prayed to the bench for deferring the hearing as the court is now on annual vacation.
However, Khaleda's lawyer Advocate AJ Mohamad Ali opposed the attorney general and prayed to the HC to hold the hearing as it involves the health of the BNP chief.
Earlier this month, the same HC bench deferred the hearing four times.
On September 9, Khaleda filed the writ petition on health grounds as she has been suffering from various diseases. In her petition, she prayed to be admitted to a specialised hospital.
Meanwhile, a medical board formed by the government on September 13 recommended Khaleda to be admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.
The former prime minister was jailed on February 8 after a Dhaka court convicted and sentenced her to five years' imprisonment in Zia Orphanage Trust Corruption case.
