SC order on review petition Oct 7

The Supreme Court’s order on the review petition filed by Saiful Islam Mamun, convicted for the murder of Saudi Embassy official Khalaf Al Ali, is due on October 7.

A four-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain fixed the date after a hearing on the review petition yesterday.

On November last year, the apex court upheld the High Court’s verdict that sentenced Saiful to death and three others to life terms while also acquitted another in the case.

On March 2012, Khalaf, 45, was shot dead near his house in Gulshan area in Dhaka.

Advocate Dr Kazi Aktar Hamid argued for Saiful while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam and Deputy Attorney General Bishwajit Debnath appeared for the state.
