Jubo League leader stabbed over ‘rivalry’
A Jubo League (JL) leader was stabbed allegedly by an expelled leader of the unit in Rajshahi city yesterday over rivalry.
Moshiur Rahman Rony, president of JL unit of Ward-14, was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, said police.
Rony, also social welfare secretary of JL’s city unit, came under the attack while going to his office at Upasahar New Market by a motorcycle around 11am, said Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Rajpara Police Station.
Babar Ali, a former general secretary of Ward-14 unit who was expelled three months ago, and his associates attacked Rony, alleged Mahmud Hasan Khan Chowdhury, office secretary of JL’s city unit.
“Babar blamed Rony for his expulsion. He was pressuring party leaders to reinstate him,” Mahmud said. “Rony, at the hospital, told me that the attack took place in front of ward-14 councillor Anwar Hossain Anar,” he claimed.
Refuting the allegation, Anar said he learnt about the matter when he woke up late in the day. “There was a misunderstanding between the two over Babar’s expulsion,” he added.
OC Hafizur said, “We’re looking for Babar.”
