JP MP demands JS body to curb corruption
Jatiya Party MP Pir Fazlur Rahman yesterday demanded formation of a parliamentary committee, comprising senior lawmakers, to look into widespread corruption allegations in different sectors.
Taking floor on a point of order, the opposition lawmaker pointed out various corruption allegations in different organisations, including Faridpur Medical College Hospital and Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
Referring to the alleged corruption in Faridpur Medical College Hospital, the JP MP said Tk 37.5 lakh was shown as the price of a bed screen, while Tk 5.27 crore was shown as the price of an oxygen generating plant.
He said the Health Directorate spent Tk 85,000 to procure a book costing only Tk 5,500.
“Institutional corruption and irregularities have cast a shadow over the government’s achievements. The incidents of corruption surface one after another before the nation,” said Pir Fazlur Rahman.
Joining the point of order, BNP lawmaker Harunur Rashid demanded that the foreign minister deliver a statement under section 300 of the rules of procedure of the parliament over Priya Shaha’s remarks placed before US President Donald Trump.
