Japanese grant seeks to improve primary education
Japan will provide 500 million Yen as grant to assist in improving the quality of primary education in Bangladesh.
An agreement signing ceremony for “Japanese Grant Aid for The Fourth Primary Education Development Programme (PEDP4)” was held on Monday at Economic Relations Division (ERD).
Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh Hiroyasu Izumi and ERD Secretary Monowar Ahmed, Secretary of ERD signed the Exchange of Notes.
Since 2000, Bangladesh achieved impressive results toward Education for All targets under PEDP, only national development strategic plan for primary education in Bangladesh.
Japan has been supporting PEDP since 2011 with a focus on improving the quality of primary education for all.
Under PEDP3, a number of development activities have been implemented nationwide including distributing refined textbooks to about 25 million students in primary schools, empowering five hundred thousand teachers and building 25,000 classrooms.
Hitoshi Hirata, chief representative of JICA Bangladesh Office, also attended the ceremony and signed the Grant Agreement for the project.
