The three-member committee, formed to probe into allegations against suspended jailer Sohel Rana Biswas, yesterday visited Chattogram Central Jail.
Jail sources said the probe committee, headed by Barishal Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG, Prison) Sogir Mia, arrived at Chattogram Central Jail around 11:00am. Other members of the committee are Kamal Hossain, superintendent of Jashore Central Jail; and Jannatul Ferdaous, jailer of Khulna Jail.
The committee has been asked to submit its probe report by November 12.
Sohel was arrested in Bhairab Railway Station on October 26 with Tk 44 lakh in cash, fixed deposit receipts (FDRs) worth Tk 2.50 crore and 12 bottles of Phensedyl. He was travelling to his hometown Mymensingh from Chattogram by train. He is currently in Kishoreganj jail following completion of a two-day remand.
Following the arrest, Sohel was suspended and two cases were filed in this connection.
While in remand, Sohel told investigators that around Tk 2.47 crore used to be accrued inside Chattogram Central Jail each month and the lion's share came from dealing of drugs.
