‘An irreparable loss’
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday expressed profound shock at the death of renowned singer and composer Subir Nandi.
In a condolence message, the president said, “His death is really an irreparable loss to the country’s cultural arena.”
Hamid prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
The prime minister, in a condolence message, recalled contribution of the noted singer to the country’s cultural arena, and said, “The five-time National Award winning singer will remain forever in the hearts of people through his works.”
The PM prayed for eternal peace of his departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the family members.
Meanwhile, expressing sorrow over Subir Nandi’s death, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said, “He sang over 2,500 songs during his 40-year-long career. He rendered several popular songs on all platforms.”
The eminent singer died of multiple organ failure, following heart attacks in a Singapore hospital early yesterday. He was taken there for better treatment on April 30 at the initiative of the prime minister.
Earlier, he was admitted to Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka on April 14 as he fell sick on his way to Dhaka from Sylhet.
The noted singer won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer five times for his performance in the films Mahanayak (1984), Shuvoda (1986), Srabon Megher Din (1999), Megher Pore Megh (2004) and Mohua Sundori (2015).
He was awarded Ekushey Padak this year.
