Introduce specialised outdoor service at all public hospitals
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday directed the authorities concerned to introduce the facility of outdoor services for specialised doctors at all public hospitals across the country.
She came up with the directive while approving a project on 500-bed extension of Sarkari Karmachari Hospital at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec), held at the planning ministry in Dhaka.
Among other directives, the PM asked the authorities to launch intensive care unit (ICU) at all government hospitals so that underprivileged people can easily avail the service, said Planning Minister MA Mannan at a briefing for journalists, following the meeting.
The PM also instructed management of the hospitals to run separate blocks for patients of cancer, paralysis, kidney and heart diseases.
Currently, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in the capital provides the specialised outdoor service at an affordable cost -- benefiting both patients and doctors.
At the Ecnec meeting, the PM approved a total of six projects.
Of them, the Tk 380 crore Sarkari Karmachari Hospital project aims to provide modern and quality health services to all public service holders, said Mannan.
Under the project, the current five-storey hospital building, situated in the capital's Fulbaria, will be expanded to 16 storeys, and several medical equipment and vehicles will be bought. Besides, another project on establishing Sheikh Hasina Nakshipalli (handicrafts village) in Jamalpur was approved at the meeting, he said.
The aim of this project is to form a specialised zone for craftsmen and improve their living standards. The cost of the first phase of the project is about Tk 722 crore, which will be spent mostly for land acquisition and development.
Of the other projects, three are related to road transport, particularly quality improvement and widening of highways, and one for extension of cultivation of lemon crops, the minister told journalists.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, Information Minister Hasan Mahmud, Commence Minister Tipu Munshi, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque and Education Minister Dipu Moni, among others, were present at the meeting.
