Int'l Day of Persons with Disabilities today
International Day of Persons with Disabilities and National Disabled Day-2018 will be observed in the country as elsewhere in the world today, aiming to create awareness to extend support and provide adequate facilities to differently-abled people.
On the eve of the day, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages, urging local and foreign organisations and the affluent section of society to extend their helping hands for the welfare of the people with disabilities.
President Hamid said it is imperative to integrate people with disabilities with the mainstream of development, to ensure their empowerment.
The premier, on the other hand, said physical and mental disabilities are part of human diversity.
“We have already enacted Persons with Disabilities Rights and Protection Act 2013, Neuro Developmental Disability Protection Trust Act, 2013 and established service centres to support disabled persons in our country," she added.
