India providing warm clothes to Rohingyas
The government of India has started distributing warm clothes and blankets among forcibly-displaced Rohingyas who took shelter in Bangladesh to flee persecution in their homeland Myanmar.
The Indian High Commission in Bangladesh yesterday started the process of delivering the fourth tranche of Indian relief assistance for the Rohingyas, said a press release of the high commission.
The Indian aid includes 225,000 blankets, 200,000 woollen sweaters and 500 solar street lights.
The assistance is in response to request made by Bangladesh's minister for disaster management and relief and is a part of India's continuing partnership and support for Bangladesh, the release added.
Distribution of the relief materials began at Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar yesterday by Refugee, Relief and Repatriation Commissioner of Bangladesh.
“India is ready to continue to assist Bangladesh in catering to the needs of displaced persons from Myanmar, in a manner that is sustainable, people-centric and is also in the best interests of the host communities as well,” read the press release.
