icddr,b launches AI based diabetic retinopathy detection
icddr,b in collaboration with Eyes For All PLC, United Arab Emirates and DIAGNOS Inc, Canada has yesterday launched an artificial intelligence (AI) based technology to detect diabetic retinopathy in Bangladesh, said a press release.
The technological platform will commence its operation today at icddr,b’s diagnostic centre in Mohakhali, Dhaka.
The platform is a cost-effective tool for screening large numbers of patients in real time and has been approved by several regulatory authorities around the world.
Diabetic retinopathy is one of the most severe complications of diabetes that often leads to permanent blindness, if not detected and intervened early. Of all diabetic people, 27% have some form of diabetic retinopathy.
This new technology will provide fast, accurate and precise reporting, and will help facilitate diabetic retinopathy screenings to a growing number of people with diabetes.
icddr,b diagnostic centre will offer the service every day from 8:30am to 5pm, and will provide reports within 24 hours of screening.
