Home quarantine cases quadruple in 3 days in Barishal
Number of individuals who are under home quarantine has increased more than four times from Tuesday to yesterday in Barishal division.
Barishal district administration has started taking stricter steps against those who violate home quarantine instructions.
Barishal Divisional Commissioner Md Yamin Chowdhury disclosed the fact yesterday noon at his office in the city, after contacting authorities of 42 upazilas over video conference.
Barishal Divisional Health Director Dr Basudev Das said 386 persons, who have returned from abroad, are in home quarantine in six districts of the division.
Two others were admitted to the isolation unit of Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital and Barguna General Hospital, over suspicion that they were infected.
The number of people in home quarantine was 90 on Tuesday and 386 yesterday.
"We were informed that some expatriates didn't maintain rules of home quarantine, so we're going to take more stringent steps for violators," he said.
"We also prepared 384 beds in six districts and 135 in Barishal city to serve patients," he added.
"Civil surgeons of the districts received personal protection equipment (PPE) to be used by doctors and nurses, but we need more," he further said.
Md Yamin asked all upazila and union chairpersons, and civil surgeons to observe the home quarantine situation and see to it that expatriates follow directions.
Barishal Deputy Commissioner SM Ajior Rahman directed hotel authorities to not board new people. He also asked everyone to not travel to other districts without emergency, confirmed Subrata Kumar Das, district administration's executive magistrate, and Sudam Ghosh, proprietor of the city's Sedona International Hotel.
The district administration confirmed that four people were fined Tk 21,000 in Agailjhara and Muladi upazilas on Wednesday night for not properly maintaining home quarantine rules.
One trader was fined Tk 10,000 for selling face-masks at a high price, during a mobile court of the district administration yesterday noon, confirmed Subrata.
