Holey Artisan Case: 4 policemen testify
Four policemen, including the then inspector (investigation) of Banani Police Station, gave their statements before a tribunal in Dhaka in connection with the Holey Artisan attack case.
The witnesses are: the then inspector Md Wahiduzzaman, Sub-inspector Faruque Hossain, ASI Sohag Hossain and Constable Prodip Chandra Das of Gulshan Police Station.
All four policemen were present on location, on the night of July 1, 2016. Of them, Wahid and Faruque were injured in the militant attack.
Faruque was severely injured and was flown to Thailand for better treatment. He was there for over four months, he said in his statement.
Judge Majibur Rahman of the Anti-Terrorism Special Tribunal of Dhaka recorded their statements and later lawyers of the accused cross-examined them.
Including them, 40 witnesses have testified before the tribunal on different dates.
After recording their statements, the tribunal set May 28 for the next hearing of the case.
Armed militants stormed the upscale restaurant in Dhaka’s Gulshan and killed 20 hostages, mostly foreign nationals. Two police officials were also killed during the 12-hour standoff.
A case was filed with Banani Police Station accusing several militants for their alleged involvement with the terror attack.
