Historic March 7: One speech in thousands of voices
Around19,200 students from 128 schools in Khulna city participated in a programme at Khulna Zila Stadium yesterday, to celebrate Bangabandhu's March 7 historic speech.
Khulna District Administration organised the programme under the auspices of Child Integrity and Shishu Bangabandhu Forum, which began with hoisting the National Flag and placing floral wreaths at Father of the Nation's portrait.
Wearing "Mujib coats", the students stood in 100 rows and emulated Bangabandhu by delivering the historic speech unitedly. All participants were led by one student.
After the speech, Khulna Divisional Commissioner Dr Md Anwar Hossain Hawlader took an oath with all to make Bangladesh "Sonar Bangla" as dreamt by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
On the occasion, eight persons -- who were present during Bangabandhu's speech on the Dhaka Racecourse Ground -- were honoured.
They are lawmaker Sheikh Helal Uddin of Bagerhat-1, Khulna City Corporation Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque, lawmaker Sheikh Salahuddin Jewel of Khulna-2, State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Mannujan Sufian, Khulna Zila Parishad Chairman Sheikh Harunur Rashid, Bagerhat Zilla Parishad Chairman Sheikh Kamruzzaman Tuku and former Khulna Press Club president Maqbul Hussain Mintu.
Khulna Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Helal Hossain presided over the programme where Aktaruzzaman Babu MP of Khulna-6, among others, spoke on the occasion.
