HC questions legality of bail to Rupayan chairman, land owner
The High Court yesterday questioned the legality of bail, granted by a lower court, to Liakat Ali Khan alias Mukul, chairman of Rupayan Group (the builder company of FR Tower), and its land owner SMHI Faruque in a corruption case filed for manipulating the design of FR Tower in Dhaka’s Banani.
The HC issued two separate rules asking Liakat and Faruque to explain in three weeks why the lower court orders that granted them bail should not be scrapped.
The bench of Justice Shahidul Karim and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan came up with the rules following two separate revisions filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), challenging the lower court orders granting bail to Liakat and Faruque.
ACC’s lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star that the lower court has granted bail to Liakat and Faruque without considering the gravity of their offences.
