HC questions InterContinental
The High Court yesterday questioned the action of InterContinental Dhaka to sell a can of soft drink at Tk 160, although its MRP is Tk 40.
The court asked lawyer for the hotel to submit a legal explanation in this regard on May 12.
The HC bench of Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir Lytton came up with the order during hearing a writ petition filed by the hotel authorities, challenging legality of a notice issued by Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP).
The hotel’s lawyer Advocate Md Yousuf Ali told The Daily Star that DNCRP served a notice around one month back to the hotel to penalise its authorities for serving a can of Sprite at Tk 160.
Citing the petition, the lawyer said InterContinental is a five-star hotel, not a retail shop, and it provides service to people. Retail value of any product is not thus applicable.
