HC orders formation of rules for students with disabilities
The High Court has directed the government to formulate specific rules for assessment of answer scripts of students with disabilities in public examinations, preferably within three months.
Secretaries to the ministries of education and social welfare, chairpersons of all education boards and their exam controllers have been ordered to formulate the rules in light with the relevant sections of the Persons with Disabilities Rights and Protection Act, 2013.
The HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader came up with the directive in a full text of a verdict, which was announced on August 22. The full text of the verdict was released recently after the judges signed it.
The bench delivered the verdict following a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Mostafizur Rahman.
Mostafizur’s son AFM Mostafa Masud, a student with disabilities, was an SSC candidate from Mohammadpur Government High School this year.
Advocate Mostafizur Rahman stated in the petition that his son performed well in the SSC examination this year.
However, the result sheet showed that he failed in two subjects -- Mathematics, and Bangladesh and Global Studies.
The HC -- in the full text of the verdict -- also ordered the respondents to reassess Masud’s answer scripts with due care, and publish his result within one month.
