HC issues rule on paying Tk 1cr compensation for Ranu’s family

The High Court today issued a rule asking the government to explain in four weeks why it should not be directed to compensate Tk 1 crore to the family of Taslima Begum Ranu who was killed in a mob beating at Badda area in Dhaka on July 20.

The HC bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal issued the rule following a writ petition filed by Ranu’s sister Nazmunnahar Nazma and Nazma’s son Syed Nasiruddin.

They submitted the writ petition to the HC on August 18 seeking its directive on the authorities concerned of the government to give Tk 1 crore in compensation to the family members of Ranu.

Barrister Md Abdul Halim and Advocate Ishrat Hasan appeared for the writ petitioners.
