HC grants anticipatory bail to 3 JCD leaders
The High Court yesterday granted four-week anticipatory bail to three leaders of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal -- the pro-BNP student body -- including its president and general secretary, in a case filed on charge of attacking police.
The court also asked the accused JCD leaders to surrender to the trial court concerned at the end of the bail period.
The HC bench of Justice Muhammad Abdul Hafiz and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo came up with the order following a petition recently filed by JCD leaders seeking bail in the case.
The leaders are, JCD President Fazlur Rahman Khokon, General Secretary Iqbal Hossain Shyamol and its Executive Member Md Akramul Hasan Mintu. They appeared before the HC bench for bail in the case against them.
Police filed the case with Paltan Police Station on October 12 against them on charge of attacking police before holding a meeting in protest of Abrar Fahad’s killing.
Barrister Kayser Kamal appeared for the accused petitioners.
SHAWKAT AZIZ RUSSEL GRANTED ANTICIPATORY BAIL
Meanwhile yesterday, another HC bench granted anticipatory bail to Showkat Aziz Russel, chairman and managing director of Amber Group, in a case filed on charge of possessing a large number of bullets and narcotics in his car.
The HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice AKM Zahirul Huq granted the anticipatory bail till submission of the police report in the case filed with Siddhirganj Police Station in Narayanganj on November 1, Deputy Attorney General Sarwar Hossain Bappi told The Daily Star.
The bench passed the order after hearing a bail petition filed by the accused.
Earlier in the day, Shawkat appeared before the HC bench for bail in the case.
Barrister Rokanuddin Mahmud and Barrister Tanjib-Ul Alam argued for the petitioner.
