Handcuffed arrestee snatched from cops

Miscreants snatched an arrested criminal -- an accused of seven cases including murder charges -- from police at Jinnat Mohal area of Tongi in Gazipur on Saturday night.

Police arrested ten persons for their alleged involvement over the last two days. However, they could not trace the snatched accused Tipu, 33, who was handcuffed during the incident, till filing this report at around 6:30 last evening.

Talking to The Daily Star, Mohammad Billal Hossain, sub-inspector of Tongi West Police Station, said police arrested Tipu in a raid at Jinnat Mohal area at around 9:30pm on Saturday.

When police were taking him to the police station, Tipu's cohorts intercepted them, attacked police and snatched Tipu, said Billal.

A case was filed accusing 17 named and 30 to 35 unnamed persons. The handcuff was recovered from a local slum on Sunday morning, but Tipu was still absconding, said Shahidur Rahman, inspector of Tongi West Police Station.
