Handcuffed accused caught trying to flee courtroom
A handcuffed accused tried to flee from a court dock in Rajshahi yesterday morning, prior to the announcement of verdict against him in a narcotics case.
But he could not go far, and got caught by police.
Later in the day, the court of Judicial Magistrate Mehedi Hasan Talukder sentenced him to two years’ imprisonment in the case.
The accused is Altaf Hossain, 48, of Godagari upazila, said Public Prosecutor Ahsan Habib. He was arrested with 21 yaba pills last year.
Altaf, out on bail, appeared at the court yesterday for the verdict, he added.
While being produced at the dock, he pushed a police member and started running, said Inspector Abdus Sobur of Rajshahi district court.
The court was on the second floor of an eight-storey building.
Altaf got caught on the first floor, he added.
