Gun licence holders can’t work as guards
Mentioning that holders of firearm licences cannot work as security personnel for other persons or organisations, the government has said licences of those engaged in such practice will be annulled immediately.
The home ministry issued a notification yesterday to this effect.
According to the Firearms Licence Supply, Renewal and Use Policy-2016, a person can use or carry his or her licensed firearm for self-protection, but cannot work as a bodyguard for another person or persons or as a guard for protecting any property.
The ministry asked those who are working as guards with their licensed firearms to refrain from the practice.
It also said the firearms cannot be displayed in such a way that intimidates others.
Legal action will be taken against those who will violate the order, the notification said.
