Govt official files GD against top N’ganj businessman
A government official yesterday filed a general diary (GD) against Narayanganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Khalid Haider Khan Kazal, over a death threat.
In the GD filed with Fatullah Model Police Station, Mohammad Jakir Hossain, executive engineer of Public Works Department (PWD) in Narayanganj, alleged that Kazal on September 18 over phone threatened to kill him as he did not award Rafiq Construction Company, nominated by Kazal, a contract of a land development project worth Tk 74.23 lakh.
“You [Jakir] will be killed whenever you come to office,” Jakir quoted Kazal as saying. Besides, Kazal hurled expletives at him, Jakir said in the GD.
Later in the day, Kazal along with a man arrived at PWD’s Narayanganj office when he was not there, and told other PWD employees that Jakir will be beaten to death wherever he is found, according to the GD.
Talking to The Daily Star, Jakir said there is dispute between him and Kazal for the last couple of years over land.
When contacted, Kazal denied the allegations. “The issue is now under investigation by the enforcement agencies. I think the truth would come out after the probe,” he added.
Aslam Hossain, officer-in-charge of Fatullah Model Police Station, said legal steps will be taken after investigation.
Khalid Haider Khan Kazal is often seen at programmes of ruling Awami League lawmaker of Narayanganj-4 constituency Shamim Osman.
