Govt approves 14 proposals

The cabinet purchase committee yesterday approved 14 proposals including buying electric poles to distribute electricity in rural areas and import shotguns for Ansar and VDP men.

A total of Tk 1,505 crore will be spent in this regard.

The committee approved the proposals in a meeting at the secretariat, presided over by Finance Minister AMA Muhith.

After the meeting, Additional Cabinet Secretary Mustafizur Rahman briefed journalists of the outcome.

The committee approved Tk 419.91 crore to the Power Division to buy 2,04,990 electric poles, as part of extension of electricity in rural areas of the country.

These will be used for extending electricity in Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna and Barisal divisions.

Another proposal to import of 30,000 shotguns and 30,00,000 cartridges for Bangladesh Ansar and VDP [Village Defence Party] for Tk 109 crore and Tk 38.44 crore respectively also got the committee's nod.

The committee also approved the import of 75,000 tonnes of urea fertiliser worth Tk 199.63 crore, under three proposals by the industries ministry.

A Singapore-based company will supply 50,000 tonnes while 25,000 tonnes will be imported from Qatar.

Among others, the committee also approved a proposal worth Tk 127.75 crore to build a 13-storey and another 4-storey building for providing residence facilities to government officials.
