Gopalganj road accident kills six, injures 18
At least six people were killed and 18 were injured in a road accident at Bhatiyapara Mor on Dhaka-Khulna highway in Kashiani upazila of Gopalganj yesterday.
The deceased are Lokman Sheikh, 60; Rabbi khan, 20; Aslam Sheikh, 35; Goffar Mollah, 65; Kibriya Mollah, 50; and Chan Mia, 32. Most of them were day labourers from different villages in Narail and were going to Boalmari upazila in Faridpur.
Quoting locals, Md Ataur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Bhanga Highway Police Station, said, “The accident happened when the driver of a local bus lost control while taking a turn. The bus then hit a truck, parked by the highway.”
Three died on the spot, while 21 injured were taken to Kashiani Upazila Health Complex and Gopalganj General Hospital.
Later, two of the injured died under treatment and another died on the way to the hospital.
Rabbani Mollah, an injured bus passenger, said, “The driver was going at high speed. We told him to slow down but he did not listen.”
