The Gonotontro Mukti Dibosh will be observed across the country today marking the fall of autocratic ruler in 1990.
On the eve of the day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday issued a statement urging all to work together to strengthen the foundation of democracy calling the people “Sentinel of Democracy”.
“The 6th of December is a significant day in the history of restoring democracy. On this day in 1990, the fall of autocratic government took place,” she said.
The premier urged all to join hands to free the country entirely from poverty and hunger and build a happy and prosperous “Sonar Bangla” and materialise the dream of the Father of the Nation.
In the last two decades, Awami League played a responsible role to protect democracy and peoples' voting rights, she said.
Different political, social and cultural organisations have chalked out various events to observe the day.
