Girl’s hanging body found, one held
Police recovered the hanging body of a 15-year-old girl from Pangashia village under Kalkini upazila in Madaridpur yesterday.
The victim, Maliha Akter, 15, daughter of Manik Bepari of Kanurgao village under Kalkini upazila, had appeared in the last SSC examinations but did not pass.
The victim family claimed that she was killed after rape by Rakib Sarder, 20, son of Belayat Sardar of Pangashia village.
Police detained Rakib, a student of Syed Abul Hossain College, for interrogation around 10:30am yesterday.
Maliha lived with her mother in a rented house at Pangashia as there was a family feud with Manik Bepari, said the victim’s aunt Nasrin Begum.
“Maliha was in love with Rakib. Maliha was alone at the house as her mother went to Noakhali on Wednesday. Taking the opportunity, Rakib went to Maliha’s house on Wednesday night and killed her after rape. He left the house after the incident,” she said.
The victim’s mother Lima Begum also claimed that Maliha, her only daughter, was murdered.
Rakib said, “I was in love with Maliha. I was with her on Wednesday and left the house early Thursday. I have no idea about her suicide.”
Md Mofazzal Hossain, officer in charge of Kalkini Police Station, said, “Informed by locals, police recovered the hanging body of the girl around 8:30am today [Thursday]. She was hanging with a scarf around her neck from a ceiling fan of her room. The body was sent to Madaripur General Hospital for autopsy.”
“We detained Rakib for interrogation,” he said.
